Wool Tie Season

My favorite time of the year is here and not just because College Football kicked off yesterday and the NFL is less than a week away. It’s time to put away the Chino and Linen suits and bring out the Flannel and Cashmere.

Those heavier suiting fabrics must be paired with a thicker tie than the usual Silk and Cotton. That can only truly mean one thing, Wool Tie Season is upon us. But just because your ties are bulkier doesn’t mean that they must be 4 inches wide. All of your favorite designers from J.Crew, Alexander Olch to Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers have a wide selection of skinny Wool ties ranging from 2.25” to 2.75”.

Below are a just a few examples. You can’t go wrong with a solid Wool tie or get creative with stripes or a plaid pattern. To me the Fall is when my Swag goes from a hundred, thousand, trillion to straight off the Richter scale. Autumn is here, dress accordingly!

Skinny Ties

Fashionably speaking, I’m an advocate of all things slim. That includes my suits, my shirts and my ties. I know some men are hesitant about skinny ties and dismiss them as a phase. I’m here to tell you that I don’t see an end to it anytime soon. I may be wrong but personally I can’t see my self going back to wearing a 4” tie.

For the record when I say skinny, I’m not talking about the ones that look like shoe laces. I’m not a rockstar. I started with a Purple Label tie that’s 3 1/4” and gradually worked my way down. Now most of my ties are 2 1/4” from the Black Fleece collection.

In closing, if you’ve been wearing wider ties all your life, give skinny ties it a try. But be careful, you may never go back!
